NHS and private dental care in Blackpool

Finding an NHS dentist in Blackpool taking on new patients has become genuinely difficult, so we’d rather be direct about where we stand.

We are currently accepting new NHS patients at our Lytham Road practice. NHS charges are set nationally and fall into three bands – a check-up sits in Band 1, fillings and root canal treatment in Band 2, and crowns, bridges and dentures in Band 3. Every band price is listed on our fees.

Private appointments are open to everyone with no waiting list, and give you access to treatments the NHS doesn’t cover – tooth-coloured fillings on back teeth, whitening, veneers and clear aligners among them.

If you’d rather spread the cost of routine care, our Privilege Plan covers your check-ups and hygiene appointments for a fixed monthly payment, and larger treatments can be paid for over time through our finance options.

Treatments at our Blackpool practice

We handle everything most families need in one place, and refer on for the rare things we don’t.

Whether you need routine care or urgent treatment, ARC Dental Surgery is here for Blackpool residents seeking high-quality dentistry.

Why patients choose ARC

Choosing a dentist in Blackpool means finding a practice that offers both expertise and a patient-friendly approach. Here’s why so many patients trust ARC Dental Surgery:

You can meet the team or see results from our patients.

Registering as a new patient

Your first appointment is a full examination. We check your teeth, gums and bite, take x-rays where they’re needed, screen for oral cancer, and then talk through what – if anything – needs doing, with costs written down before you agree to any of it.

You can register online, request a callback, or call the practice on 01253 835453. There’s more detail on what to expect on our new patients.

If you’re nervous about the dentist

A lot of people haven’t seen a dentist in years, and the longer the gap gets the harder the first appointment feels. It’s one of the most common things patients tell us when they finally come in, and nobody here is going to make you feel awkward about it.

Tell us when you book and we’ll allow extra time, talk you through what’s happening before we start, and stop whenever you ask. A first visit can be nothing more than a look and a conversation – no treatment, no pressure to commit to anything.

More on how we help nervous and anxious patients.

Where our patients come from

We’re on Lytham Road in central Blackpool, which puts us within a short drive of most of the Fylde Coast. Patients travel to us from across FY1 to FY8 and from Preston.

We have dedicated pages for patients coming from Bispham, South Shore, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lytham, Cleveleys, Marton and Peel and Preston.

If you’re outside those areas you’re still very welcome – the practice sits just off the A584 with on-street parking nearby.

Common questions

NHS availability across Blackpool changes constantly and no list stays accurate for long. The NHS website publishes a directory of local practices with their current status, and it’s worth calling rather than relying on it.

An NHS check-up falls into Band 1, which is a nationally fixed charge and the same at every NHS practice in England. Private examination fees vary between practices – ours are listed on our fees, and check-ups are included in the monthly Privilege Plan.

Usually not, and A&E departments generally can’t treat dental problems – they have no dentist on site and can only manage pain or infection. The exceptions are facial swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, or a jaw injury. We’ve written more on when A&E is the right call and what counts as a dental emergency.

NHS treatment is free if you receive certain benefits, if you’re under 18, or if you’re pregnant or have had a baby in the last twelve months. Beyond that, most larger treatments can be spread over monthly payments – see our finance options. It’s always worth coming in for an examination even if you’re not ready to commit to treatment, because problems get more expensive the longer they’re left.

Between every six months and every two years depending on your risk of decay and gum disease – your dentist will recommend an interval after your examination. Most adults with healthy teeth and gums are seen annually.
